Women's Softball Couldn't Win the Golden Egg on Easter

Easter Sunday, the Falcons played host to Eastern Michigan University… and looking at the stats you would think the girls would have gone home happy.

The Falcons out-hit the Eagles 6-3, freshman Paige Berger smashed her seventh career homer while scoring both runs and the defense held the Eagles scoreless for five of the seven innings. So why did the score of 5-2 add an “L” to the Falcon’s column?

After a slow start, the top of the third was started off by three runs from the Eagles. BG was unable to answer those runs offensively but they were able to hold off more runs from EMU until the fifth inning, ending in a 5-0 score with the Eagles on top.

Due to two errors, too close together; Berger was able to reach home… twice. First off a wild pitch to Susan Sontag and then an error on the shortstop from a hit off Zada Lines, Berger was able to score both the runs.

Rootstown native, Paige Berger is only a freshman and is already making her mark on the Falcons’ softball team. With the best batting average on the team at .306, she has seven homeruns, fourteen RBI’s and a recorded fifteen hits.

After the weekend, the Bowling Green State University women’s softball team is currently 6-12 overall, and tied at two in the MAC.

The Bowling Green Falcons will be back in competition when they travel to take on the Irish at Notre Dame Wednesday, April 7th. The first pitch is at 5pm.
